Marine Monitoring

It started in the classroom but we were soon out in the field down at Woody Point.

Our first marine monitoring day.

REF has joined SEQC with members volunteering to be environmental monitors at least three times per year. Members participated in a training afternoon which included lectures in our official base at Redcliffe High School followed by 'on the ground' training at Woody Point and Hays Inlet. The idea is that over a period of time a picture will be built up of how the environment is changing or not changing in terms of marine species recorded at these two sites.

There was some consternation amongst the group at having to be able to identify all the species which might be found in the survey site but this was allayed when it was pointed out that a skilled assistant would participate in each monitoring session.

REF members will now be able to provide information for an environmental study which is Moreton Bay wide.
