Last one - Chelsea Street - 27-04-06

It is amazing the number of times Chelsea Street is mentioned in REF meetings. 'There are koalas at Chelsea Street; Council has 'x' planned for Chelsea Street.....' To me Chelsea Street was like the proverbial charter boat. 'Chelsea Street. What Chelsea Street??..."

Finally armed with the camera I took off for Chelsea Street. Without doubt, it is a fantastic environmental area worthy of the recognition Council has given it. The transition from majestic Eucalypts to mangroves is classic. I doubt if many people venturing into the area would ever make the mangroves because the mudflats here are quite extensive and, speaking from experience, very slippery. I didn't make it far into the mangrove fringe before being stopped by the network of natural channels and the fact that I was wearing my 'good' old sandshoes!

Compared with wetlands closer to the mouth of Saltwater Creek, the area is very free of the rubbish which floats into mangrove areas on the tide. Council had done a major clean-up of this area in Clean-up Australia Day 2005 and only one car body remained. This may represent a challenge for Council removalists. A Casuarina had clearly taken over what is left of the engine bay.

The question is 'Can the remains of the Ford Cortina / Anglia ( I am still not certain which it is ) be removed without damaging the Casuarina?'

I believe it is possible.

Trail bike riders is another issue!
